Officials with College of the Canyons announced Wednesday that all spring 2020 parking permits are set to be valid through both the summer and fall terms as a result of the college’s move to remote learning due to the coronavirus pandemic.
College officials emailed students Wednesday to announce the extension.
“All students who purchased spring 2020 parking permits are asked to retain those parking permits for use through December 2020,” the email reads. “The parking permit, properly displayed on your vehicle, will be valid for the summer and fall 2020 terms.”
Officials said that they will not be issuing refunds for the spring 2020 parking permits, and that any students who either did not purchase or lost a spring pass will be able to purchase passes for the summer and fall during the registration period of each respective term.
“As a reminder, parking passes are registered to the individual purchasing the pass and are not transferable to another individual,” the emails reads. “If you change vehicles, please email the Student Business Office (sbo@canyons.edu) with your updated vehicle information.”

The announcement comes two days after officials emailed students and faculty to reporte the second and third confirmed cases of COVID-19 among the College of the Canyons community.
“In the first case, the affected individual self-reported their diagnosis,” the email read. “This person was last on campus March 13. Because this individual was last on campus more than two weeks ago, the 14-day period of self-quarantine recommended by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has passed.”
The email was sent out after officials with College of the Canyons received the information late Monday.
“In the second case, the college was notified by a family member that the affected individual was admitted to the hospital for treatment of COVID-19-related symptoms,” the email read. “While official test results are pending, the case is being treated as a presumptive positive diagnosis by the patient’s physicians. The individual was last on campus on March 25. For reference purposes, April 9 marks the end of the 14-day period from the point of potential exposure related to this case.”
As was the case when the first instance of COVID-19 was reported at College of the Canyons, the physical areas that the affected individuals passed through are set to undergo additional disinfection on top of the college’s normal cleaning schedule.
“The health and safety of our COC community remains our top concern,” the email reads. “These are uncertain and unsettling times, but we will get through this together.”
