UPDATE 6:15 p.m.: All lanes of the Northbound 5 Freeway have reopened in Castaic, after a SIG Alert was instated earlier in the day as a result of a leaking tanker truck releasing Hydrogen Peroxide.
A leaking tanker truck releasing Hydrogen Peroxide along the northbound 5 Freeway just a mile south from Templin Highway has caused a hazmat response from first responders, according to officials.
The incident is being called the Templin Incident and has completely shut down the NB I-5 Freeway lanes near the leak for an extended period of time, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Upon arrival to the scene, CHP officials issued a SIG Alert due to the leak, according to the twitter post.
Emergency responders received the call around 2:32 p.m. and arrived on scene at 2:42 p.m., said Supervising Fire Dispatcher Melanie Flores with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The leaking fluid is being released at a slow rate, according to Flores.
“One gallon every five minutes,” Flores said.
As of 3:20 p.m., “there is about 10 to 15 gallons on the ground,” Flores added.
