One Skyline Home Untagged After Landslide

One of the Skyline houses yellow-tagged on Sunday after a landslide has been cleared for the residents to return home.

On Sunday, a landslip occurred at the top of a slope along the rear yard fences of six homes on Plume Way in the Skyline community, according to officials with Tri Pointe Homes.

“(On Tuesday) geotechnical, slope stabilization and remediation experts inspected the site and developed a plan to remediate and rebuild the impacted slope,” Tri Pointe Home officials said.

After the inspection, experts were able to untag one of the impacted homes, according to Carrie Lujan, spokesperson for the City of Santa Clarita.

Experts are now developing a plan to reinforce the impacted land.

“In coordination with these experts and the City of Santa Clarita, we expect that there will be two stages to the remediation and rebuilding of the slope,” Tri Pointe officials said. “The first stage will involve I-beams being placed in the slope to provide stability. The I-beam design is currently being finalized, materials are being sourced, and equipment mobilized. Once the preparation has been completed and work can commence, the I-beam installation is anticipated to take approximately six weeks, barring inclement weather delays or unforeseen circumstances.”

The second stage involves designing and placing caissons, which are retaining structures, into the slope, according to officials.

The specifications and duration of this stage is expected to be determined once the design work is completed by the structural and geotechnical engineers and reviewed by the City of Santa Clarita.

“Tri Pointe Homes has been committed to providing high-quality homes and communities to homeowners throughout the greater Los Angeles area for many years. We strive for excellence and take an issue such as this very seriously,” officials said. “We are continuing to communicate and work with the impacted homeowners, keeping them informed about temporary access to their homes, plans to stabilize and rebuild the impacted slope and to provide suitable extended stay accommodations. We regret the concern and disruption this issue has caused to the impacted homeowners and the surrounding Skyline community.”

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
