Possible Trapped Child Leads To Canyon Country Urban Search And Rescue Response

A call for a possible trapped child in Canyon Country led to a response from Urban Search and Rescue Sunday morning, officials said.

Reports were received around 9:10 a.m. of a child trapped underneath a manhole cover near the intersection of Soledad Canyon Road and Camp Plenty Road in Canyon Country, according to Supervisor Melanie Flores with the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD).

“Somebody called like a child was down in the manhole in the middle of the street,” Flores said. “Sheriff has been contacted for any possible missing persons in the area.”

LACoFD Urban Search and Rescue officials, first responders specializing in trapped victims, were on scene to take part in the investigation.

Public Works officials were also contacted to ensure they would be able to access the sewer system in the area.

The “Soledad incident” was concluded just after 10 a.m. Sunday, and Fire Department officials had neither seen nor heard any sign of persons trapped underground,  according to LACoFD Supervisor Cheryl Sims.
