On Saturday, a crowd of Santa Clarita protestors took to the Valencia streets to voice their opposition over the Supreme Court’s draft majority opinion overturning Roe v. Wade.
On Monday it was revealed that in a draft opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito, the Supreme Court has voted to strike down the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision guaranteeing federal constitutional protections of abortion rights.
Obtained and released by POLITICO, the draft opinion has sparked outrage among pro-choice and women’s rights activists across the country, including here in Santa Clarita.
“It’s not surprising in a horrifying way,” said Quynn Lubes about the decision. “Now that it’s actually happening it just shows they never really cared about us.”
At 4 p.m. an organized group of protestors armed with signs met outside Santa Clarita City Hall and made their way down Valencia Boulevard to the busy intersection of Valencia and McBean.
“I decided to come here today because I have a four year old daughter and I want to make sure she doesn’t grow up in a country with less rights than her grandmother did,” said Flo Siegal. “It’s intolerable that she would not have the same rights and choice over her own destiny.”
The creation of the protest took place primarily online, drawing hundreds of likes and shares. Social media was the place the majority of the crowd found out about the protest.
“I’m hoping to spread word about how important it is to keep abortion legal because when you can abortion you’re only banning safe abortions,” said Micayla Darland.
Protestors gathered for a few hours into the Saturday evening. As of now, there is no word on if and when another demonstration will be held but many agreed that they would not stop protesting this decision.
“It gets me emotional. I’m so angry. I will be out here and I will vote blue and I will do what it takes to leave a better world for my family,” said Margie Vies.

Sometimes the mother has been raped, sometimes the pregnancy is a result of incest. There are circumstances that, as kms put it, are none of our business. And I’ve never heard of abortion being taken lightly, by anyone.
OK, for the less than 1% of abortions that result from those things, we’ll keep it legal. Let’s add in the mother’s life being in jeopardy and the baby having no chance at surviving. We’ll just outlaw the other 99%. Will that suit you?

Do these airheads know that if the bill passes it will be up to the states to decide? Probably vote on it. Do they realize Newscom will never stop banning abortions that the rest of us are on the hook for?
