Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Ranks Among America’s 50 Best Hospitals

On Tuesday, Providence Holy Cross Medical Center received the “Healthgrades 2021 America’s 50 Best Hospitals Award” for the second year in a row.

The recognition places the Mission Hills hospital in the top one percent of the 4,500 hospitals assessed nationwide by Healthgrades, the leading resource in connecting consumers to physicians and hospitals that reviews hositial performances nationwide each year.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our physicians and caregivers who stood strong in the worst health crisis imaginable and continued to provide top quality care to our patients and their families as the pandemic raged in our community,” said Dr. Bernard Klein, chief executive of Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana, in a statement Tuesday. “The excellence, compassion and dignity provided as our numbers soared tested them and our quality never faltered.”

This year marks the second time Providence Holy Cross has been awarded as one of America’s top 50 hospitals. The hospital, known for its services in cardiology, oncology, neurology, orthopedics and emergency medicine, was also named among Healthgrades Top 100 Hospitals the previous two years.

According to Healthgrades, patients treated in hospitals that have achieved the Top 50 award had on average a 25.7 percent lower risk of dying than if they had been treated in hospitals that did not receive the award from 2017 through 2019.

“COVID-19 has profoundly changed the delivery of health care but what is unchanged is the importance of high-quality care,” said Dr. Brad Bowman, chief medical officer for Healthgrades, in a statement Tuesday. “Those hospitals that achieved the America’s 50 Best Hospitals Award have exhibited a long-standing commitment to quality and superior clinical outcomes, which differentiates them from other healthcare organizations. We applaud their ongoing efforts.”

Holy Cross sister hospitals Providence St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton has also earned Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award, and the America’s 250 Best Hospitals Award was given to Providence St. Joseph Hospital in Orange and Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley.
