In 2011, Providence Holy Cross opened its NICU, the first serving the north Valley and Santa Clarita.  The 12-bed unit provides state-of-the-art care for high-risk newborns, partnering with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to treat seriously ill babies close to home.

Maternity nurse Jennifer Dineen saw new moms walking along the stark hallway connecting the Providence Holy Cross Medical Center maternity unit to the Neonatal ICU where their premature or seriously ill newborns were taken for specialized care.

For more than a year, she worked on a project to bring these moms hope. The exhibit along the wall includes stories of each during their early days under treatment.

Today the youngsters are thriving, their stories encouraging parents whose frail newborns remain hospitalized.

Seven of those youngsters – including a set of twins – will celebrate the unveiling of the Hall of Hope portraits.

The unveiling of the portrait is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at the Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills. Organizers ask that guests meet in the lobby.

The NICU is designed to encourage family interaction within a private setting. The medical staff includes obstetricians, pediatricians and pediatric sub-specialists in cardiology, neurology and ophthalmology and specializes in treating premature infants and babies with conditions including jaundice, respiratory distress and neonatal infections.
