Footage of a package thief in Castaic was caught on a Ring home security device earlier this month, prompting officials to spread the image in an effort to catch the thief.
The package thief was caught on film in a Castaic neighborhood near Hillcrest Parkway and The Old Road, according to officials.
“This guy came up and dropped of a box so he could assess the situation,” according to the homeowner, via the Neighbors app. “He came back four minutes later and stole the Amazon box from the front porch.”
After a neighbor confronted the thief, the “porch pirate” reportedly drove off in a four-door gray GMC Sonoma with a license plate of 6D16585, according to the homeowner.
City of Santa Clarita officials recently renewed their partnership with Ring, reducing the price for residents to set up Ring security systems.
In December, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials began deploying empty packages in a sting operation to catch package thieves.
Officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station recommend that victims of package theft contact authorities.
Deputies with the station also issued tips to prevent package theft this past holiday season.
Anyone that recognizes the thief is asked to contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at 661-255-1121.
