The operation was the fourth to take place this year in response to commercial burglaries plaguing business owners in the area.
No commercial burglaries occurred during the hours of the operations, according to officials, who added that they’re continuing to proactively target spots identified as areas where crimes are more likely to occur.
The Santa Clarita burglary suppression operations are part of the Sheriff’s Station Capt. Lewis’ predictive policing approach in which crime data and reports are analyzed by a team of station officials, including deputies, detectives and other investigators, and crime prevention resources are adjusted accordingly.
With just four separate occurrences, the operation resulted in three arrests, weapon and drugs confiscation, and $75,000 in warrant citations.
One offender was arrested for possession of heroin, and another was taken into custody for carrying a loaded concealed firearm.
A Kern County man was cited for a $25,000 misdemeanor warrant out of his hometown. He was the passenger in a vehicle driven by a motorist operating under a suspended license, and that driver was taken into custody.
Sheriff’s Station officials conducted two similar Santa Clarita burglary suppression operations at the beginning and end of June.
The two operations in June resulted in 14 arrests for crimes ranging from drug or weapons possession, burglary, vandalism and weapons sales.
The Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station have been conducting concentrated operations in areas known for high burglary incidents.
Typically, an operation such as this requires pre-planning to ensure high success rate removing criminals, drugs and weapons off the streets.
These operations generally require a 10- to 15-person team targeting “crime suppression zones” that are mapped out prior to conducting the operation.
