Santa Clarita Child And Family Center Celebrate Purple Palooza 5K Walk

The Santa Clarita Child and Family Center celebrated their annual Purple Palooza 5k Walk to raise funds and awareness for the center’s Domestic Violence Program.

The event kicked off with breakfast and warm-up activities for the crowd. Booths were set up with a variety of themes including information and resources, and vendors. A live band served as the entertainment as well.

Before the start of the 5k walk, the Child and Family Center hosted two speakers who spoke on their experience and survival stories with domestic violence.

Real estate agent and active member of the community, Amy Brandon, spoke on her experiences with domestic violence, “Domestic violence is such a personal issue, and it is always kept secret. We must get people to understand that they are not in it by themselves.”

“There’s victims and there’s survivors. The more we are the victim, the longer we will identify with those characteristics.” said Amy Green, who spoke on her experience with domestic violence and drug abuse.

“I looked at my pattern and told myself I would never do that to myself again, I will never hurt myself like that again,” said Green.

Green now works in fitness with those recovering from drug addiction.

October is known as Domestic Violence Awareness month and is marked by the purple ribbon. Many of the participants in today’s walk wore purple clothing.

Drummers with the Valencia High School marching band performed a send off for the participants as they embarked on their 5k walk on local sidewalks and bike paths near the center.

Activities such as entertainment, vendors and food were available following the 5k Color Walk.

The Santa Clarita Child and Family Center is located on 21545 Centre Pointe Parkway. To learn more about the center, click here
