The Facebook group “SCV: Helicopters, Lights & Sirens! Oh My! (and Scanner),” is a closed Santa Clarita online group that allows citizens to post and ask questions concerning local news, held a gift basket collection event on Saturday, April 8 at Meadows Park, Valencia.

The gift baskets were assembled and given to the SCV Sheriff’s Station and California Highway Patrol officers stationed at the Newhall Office.

“We are collecting donations for baskets that we are putting together for the sheriff station to say thank you for their hard work,” according to Jenn Dumars, an administrator for the online community group.

Christine Hart-Horwitz created and organized the event, which was hosted by the admins, she added.

The collections are starting up again next month, Dumars added.

“Beginning May 1, we will begin pro-actively collecting donations for the (Los Angeles County) Fire Department,” she said.

“Helicopters, Lights & Sirens” is a 12,000-plus-person social media group that shares information about emergency situations as they’re occurring.

The group also allows regional news articles and self-posts concerning community news and events that affect local residents.
