Santa Clarita Grocery Receives Surprise Dump Truck Load Of Pretzels

On Thursday morning, the volunteers of Santa Clarita Grocery were greeted with the sight of hundreds of bags of pretzels donated at the front of their warehouse door.

The unusual donation filled the back of a truck and was donated to the non-profit in Santa Clarita on Thursday morning after director Bradley Grose received a call from residents and former USAF Combat Pilot Veteran Glen Baker.

Baker is chairman of the Board for New Horizons, a non-profit helping the developmentally disabled through housing, training, volunteering and work programs and he was formerly CFO for the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

Baker stated that Dots Homestyle Pretzels was filming a commercial on his street under the production company Spears & Arrows for The Hershey Company and at the conclusion of filming, the question arose of what would become of the dump truck filled with pretzels.

Its initial fate was to be carted off to the landfill unless they could find a home for the freshly packaged goods, which the film crew wanted to avoid.

Baker called SC Grocery stating that 25 boxes of pretzels awaited the non-profit if they could get volunteers over to collect them.

SCGrocery volunteers Florent Moriau and Bradley Grose left the Wednesday night grocery distribution in progress and were greeted by the film crew who quickly loaded up the vehicle full of boxes.

The production crew then asked if the grocery wanted the entire truckload, and on accepting the offer, the dump truck was driven over to the grocery warehouse on Thursday morning.

“Santa Clarita Grocery distributed 578 tons of groceries to the SCV community in 2022 which gives a profound and very clear picture of the growing need for grocery assistance to the regular working-class families,” said owner Grose. “With a dozen eggs now costing a buck an egg, $100 does not get you very much in these challenging times.”

The pretzel packages are set to go to the customers of SC Grocery in time for the Super Bowl weekend. Baker also stated that everyone in the neighborhood of the location shoot also got a box.

For anyone needing assistance, SCGrocery distributes groceries Monday and Wednesday evenings 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.

To volunteer, call Santa Clarita Grocery at 661-425-7575 and ask for Jill, director of Community Outreach.

  1. What an amazing gift!

  2. The article says that Grose is both the owner and a volunteer. Which is correct?

Also, he says he’s paying a dollar an egg. Where does he shop?
