The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Santa Clarita held a bake sale and car wash fundraiser Saturday to support Ukrainian refugees seeking asylum in Berlin and Poland.
The church, located on Bouquet Canyon Road near Saugus High School, sold goods and provided services with volunteers from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. People were welcomed to get a car wash and browse baked goods and treats.
The fundraiser was aimed to support those affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as Ukrainian citizens have been fleeing their home country in droves. With over a tenth of refugees seeking asylum in the Polish capital, Warsaw’s mayor has appealed for international help.
Ellie Williams, President of the Saugus Ward Relief Society, put together the car wash and bake sale efforts.
“All donations will be sent to friends in Berlin and Warsaw who are gathering food, clothing, medical supplies, activity kits for children and other necessities for the refugees coming into those two cities,” Williams said. “The group we are working within Warsaw is also taking supplies into Ukraine and helping bring refugees out of the country.”
People were encouraged to donate whatever they could to support the cause, with no minimum or maximum donation requirements.

Wow… would had been nice if KHTS announced this event earlier in the weeks beforehand. I bet the fundraiser would have had a bigger outcome financially if this event was properly advertised. Missed opportunity!!!
