Officials considered factors like quality of life, sense of community and cost of living to compile the list of the eight best SoCal cities to retire in, with Santa Clarita topping the list.

“Santa Clarita offers the perfect blend of refined living in a community that still has a small town feel,” wrote Angela Timmons, who compiled the list, in a statement on “Only In Your State.” “Retirees are drawn here for the beautiful weather, quality of life and gorgeous scenery.”

Timmons also credits Santa Clarita for offering a number of senior living communities with housing rates “that won’t break the bank.”

The city of Santa Clarita is followed by Oceanside in second place and Santa Barbara in third. Also making the top eight are Riverside, Palm Springs, San Luis Obispo, Glendale and Seal Beach.

“It’s true that Southern California is an expensive place to live,” Timmons wrote, noting that the list focuses on cities that “are a bit more economical in comparison to the rest of SoCal.”

She continued, “It’s equally true that it’s a wonderful place to be with stunning scenery and glorious weather almost every day of the year.”

“Timmons also credits Santa Clarita for offering a number of senior living communities with housing rates “that won’t break the bank.”” This is not true.

I live in a senior community that charges market rental rate. All my social security income goes to pay the monthly rent. Santa Clarita is very expensive and I will be soon forced to seek another state.
