“I do see people dating online and it’s part of the times we’re in,” said ,Jessica Hartley Santa Clarita relationship coach and founder of the Legendary Love Program. “There are benefits and negatives, so just be smart and get to know the person if you want to get married.”

After the new year, singles have been known to flock to their favorite dating website on Jan. 6, making it the busiest day for online dating.

“The holidays are a time where you have togetherness and family, so they’re probably ready to find that as the new year begins,” said Hartley.

For some, the tradition of making a list and setting new goals for the new year is as common as the ball drop in Times Square.

Those wanting a fresh start for the new year usually have “finding love” somewhere at the top of the list.

“If their intention is to look for someone for marriage, I advise that they be as authentic as they can when they update their profiles,” said Hartley.

Nearly 40 percent of men and women in the United States between the ages of 35-44 are either single, divorced or widowed, according to the most recent U.S. Census Bureau report.

With statistics showing almost half of Americans identifying as single, a New Year’s resolution to cure lonely holidays is a common goal.

“If you came out of a relationship that didn’t work out, try to heal those wounds so that future relationships are successful,” said Hartley. “Put yourself at a higher level first because you attract what you put out there.”

With thousands of singles expected to use technology to find their special someone, Sunday is anticipated to double their chances as more people will be active on websites and apps.

For the past few years, online dating has lost much of its stigma and a majority of Americans now say it’s a good way to meet people, according to the Pew Research Center.

An estimated five percent of Americans who are married or in a committed relationship say they met their significant other online, according to the center.

“When looking for a potential partner, look for someone you can form a friendship with at the core and let the beauty and money just be extra,” said Hartley. “Don’t base the relationship on that.”
