Although a Santa Clarita teenager might not be able to spend time with his grandparents in person due to the COVID-19 quarantine, he has figured out a way to use a Ring video doorbell to stay connected while keeping them safe from the coronavirus.
Cade Costic, a student at West Ranch High School, usually spends a lot of time with his grandparents, going out and exploring the city, or just having dinner.
“I like to go down and see them spend time with them, take them out to any appointments they might have,” said Costic in an interview with College of the Canyons professor Austin Dave. “When my grandma gets her hair done my grandpa and I like to go out together and do fun things.”
However, the Los Angeles County “Safer at Home” order and other quarantine efforts to combat the spread of the coronavirus, COVID-19, has prevented Costic from seeing his family members.
Costic noted that both his grandfather, 92, and his grandmother, 86, have underlying health issues that place them at greater risk, especially when combined with their elevated age.
To stay connected during quarantine, Costic came up with the idea of using his grandparents’ new Ring video doorbell to chat, especially with his “Papa Dan.”
“He loves talking with that thing at me … and every morning when he goes out to get the paper we have a conversation,” said Costic. “I feel like it’s more personal than calling him up.”
