UPDATE: 3:50 p.m. — The deputy sustained “non-life threatening” injuries, according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The call came in at about 2:40 p.m. Friday, when a motorcycle unit was reported to have crashed near the intersection of Avenue Scott and Rye Canyon Road in Valencia, according to Vanessa Lozano, with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“It was a motor deputy,” Lozano said. “A paramedic was requested.”

The deputy reportedly was conscious and breathing after the crash, according to witnesses on the scene.

The deputy was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, according to officials.

“One of our motor units was involved in a traffic collision 2:35 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Avenue Scott and Rye Canyon, Valencia,” said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station. “(A) motor unit was struck by vehicle behind him, causing him to fall off motorcycle. The officer was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”

Another SCV Sheriff’s unit immediately called for backup and medical response after the crash, prompting deputies to block several intersections en route to the hospital, officials said.

The California Highway Patrol is also assisting on traffic control, according to Officer Eric Priessman with the Newhall area office.
