The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory warning for the Santa Clarita area until Tuesday, Dec 5 at 3 p.m. Wind speeds are expected to reach as high as 50 miles per hour into Tuesday evening.

An extended period of moderate to strong Santa Ana winds are on the way for southwest California, potentially reaching damaging levels from Monday evening into next week, according to the National Weather Service.

In addition to the wind advisory, a Red Flag Warning is in effect until Dec. 7 at 6 p.m., according to officials.

A Red Flag Warning denotes a time period in which “if fire ignition occurs, there will be the potential for very rapid fire spread, long range spotting and extreme fire behavior,” according to the National Weather Service.

If winds persist, the Red Flag Warning could possibly be extended into Friday or Saturday, the National Weather Service added.

“But, you should see warming throughout the week, topped out at around the low 80s,” National Weather Service Meteorologist John Dumaf said.

The National Weather Service has predicted the following conditions until Sunday evening:

Today

Sunny, with a high near 66. Windy, with a northeast wind around 30 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph.

Tonight

Clear, with a low around 44. Windy, with a north northeast wind 30 to 35 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph.

Tuesday

Sunny, with a high near 65. Windy, with a northeast wind 30 to 35 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph.

Tuesday Night

Clear, with a low around 44. Breezy, with a north northeast wind 20 to 25 mph decreasing to 15 to 20 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.

Wednesday

Sunny, with a high near 73. Breezy, with a northeast wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

Wednesday Night

Clear, with a low around 46. Breezy.

Thursday

Sunny, with a high near 76. Breezy.

Thursday Night

Mostly clear, with a low around 48. Breezy.

Friday

Sunny, with a high near 78.

Friday Night

Mostly clear, with a low around 49.

Saturday

Sunny, with a high near 78.

Saturday Night

Mostly clear, with a low around 49.
