Saugus High Shooting Prompts Hart District Closures, ‘Light Up Main Street’ Postponed

The Saugus High shooting has prompted the closure of all William S. Hart Union High School District campuses Friday, and the City’s “Light Up Main Street” event in Newhall has been postponed, officials said.

The events surrounding the Saugus High School shooting, with two confirmed dead and multiple injured, have brought the community together to mourn and support the shooting victims and survivors, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“We are all grieving and in shock as a result of today’s terrible events,” said William S. Hart Union High School District Deputy Superintendent Mike Kuhlman.

All high schools and junior high schools in the Hart District have been closed on Friday, Nov. 15, according to Kuhlman.

Santa Clarita Valley International (SCVi) is also closed Friday, according to school officials.

“Following the tragic events that unfolded at Saugus High School on Thursday morning, the City of Santa Clarita has decided to postpone its annual holiday season celebration, Light Up Main Street,” said City of Santa Clarita officials.

The event, originally scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 16, is now set to take place on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 6 p.m.
