Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station gathered to have coffee with residents this morning for National Coffee with a Cop Day.
Hosted at Havana Savannah on Wednesday, residents sat down with deputies to ask questions and get to know them, a tradition the sheriff’s station does every month.
Last week one was held at a Starbucks on Lyons Avenue, but in the spirit of this week being National Coffee with a Cop Day, another one was scheduled.
Residents were able to come and talk to deputies, getting to know the faces behind law enforcement and ask any questions.
“It’s just bringing the human side to law enforcement,” said Captain Justin Diez. “It’s unique here because all the deputies here right now live in Santa Clarita. So these are our neighbors.”
According to Captain Diez, the most asked questions lately have been school security and fentanyl, with most people coming to the events being parents.
“A question just came up today about fentanyl and Halloween candy,” said Diez. “So we’ve been telling parents to make sure their kids are only eating sealed candy.”
As Halloween gets closer, the sheriff’s station plans on putting out more public notices about being safe during Halloween, according to Diez.
Coffee with a Cop is scheduled to occur monthly in different locations in Santa Clarita.
