Beginning when he was in the 10th grade, Adam Miller, now, a senior at SCVi, plotted out his plan by drawing out an architectural blueprint and attending meetings with school administrators and with the county’s Building and Safety Department for permits.

“I wanted to do a meaningful project for the school to give back for all that is has done for me,” said Miller. “I first met with iLEAD Facilities Director Elaine Williamson, who presented me with the idea for the flagpole courtyard, and it was exactly what I was looking for.”

For over three months, Miller worked on raising the funds for the project by standing  in front of SCVi before and after school to sell brick engravings that would be included in the finished courtyard.

“The project of course is a way for Adam to toward his goals as an Eagle Scout,” said Amber Raskin, co-founder of iLEAD Schools. “But it’s also been a terrific educational experience that exemplifies the benefits of project-based learning.”

Before the ceremony, Miller presented Raskin, Upper School Director Kimberly Matthes and Lower School Director Lisa Latimer with a new state flag, a newly designed iLEAD School flag, and the country’s flag before raising them all up their new poles, complete with color guard.

“Though it was hard work, it has been a terrific learning opportunity for me and my family,” said Miller.
