Six Flags Magic Mountain management and their union-affiliated employees voted to accept a new mutually agreed upon contract Wednesday, thereby avoiding a potential labor strike at the Santa Clarita amusement park.

Although few details were made public in regards to the parameters outlining the new labor agreement signed on Dec. 27, Six Flags Magic Mountain officials did state that both parties agreed to a three-year contract.
Workers had previously demanded that Six Flags Magic Mountain extend its comprehensive healthcare package to all bargaining unit employees who work more than 30 hours a week, several months in the year, whether classified as full-time or seasonal, according to union officials.
They also wanted paid time off for bereavement and jury duty for all seasonal employees who work fewer than 30 hours a week, several months in the year.
Despite previous reports from other local media outlets, the union workers of Six Flags Magic Mountain wanted management to give certain assurances concerning employee benefits for when the park moves to a year-round schedule beginning on Jan. 1, 2018.
“(A previous article had reported) that we were not offering union benefit packages to
employees,” said Sue Carpenter, communications manager at Six Flags Magic Mountain. “All union members receive union benefits.”
All full time employees receive very comprehensive benefits, including paid time off for jury duty and bereavement, according to Carpenter.
“We are looking forward to maintaining our high guest service standards and our 365 days of park operation,” said Carpenter. “We have always had a good relationship with our union.”
Seasonal workers at Six Flags Magic Mountain also receive benefits based upon the number of hours that are worked.
