Six Students In Custody After Making Reported Santa Clarita School Threat

Six high school students were arrested Wednesday after an alleged Santa Clarita school threat, officials said.

On Wednesday, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s COBRA detectives, assisted by deputies, detained several local high school students after learning about social media threats regarding committing acts of school violence, said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the station.

There is no current threat to students, staff or schools in Santa Clarita, according to Miller.

“Although threats were made by students in the Hart District, no particular schools were identified,” said Dave Caldwell, a spokesperson for the William S. Hart Union High School District.

As of Thursday afternoon, the name of the high school has not been released by Sheriff’s officials.

A  Hart District staff member discovered the threats and alerted the authorities, who quickly investigated and detained six juveniles.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies take any and all threats of violence seriously, according to officials.

The suspects were detained on charges for felony criminal threats and transported to the Sylmar Juvenile Hall, where they currently remain housed.

“Our detectives and school resource officers are spending a lot of manpower researching, identifying and interviewing the subjects, because, how do we know that we are not dealing with the next active shooter?” said Sgt. Brian Shreves, who oversees the station’s COBRA unit, which primarily deals with investigating juvenile-related crimes. “We don’t know, so when kids make thoughtless comments to one another, either verbally or through text messages, we take it very seriously.”

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is reminding the community that all threats will be investigated aggressively with criminal consequences, according to officials.

“We encourage all parents — please talk with your children about social media and make sure they know any kind of threat they put out there is not a joke,” Shreves said. “Oftentimes in these situations we hear from the suspect that the alleged threat was just a joke. There is nothing funny about threatening violence, and the consequences they face, including jail time, restitution and a criminal record — are all very serious.”

Six Students In Custody After Making Reported Santa Clarita School Threat

  1. Which high school?

  2. The idea that they are not coming forth with which high school it was is terrible! I know they do not want mass hysteria, but if my kids were in that school, I would want to make a conscious decision myself if I want my kid to attend school or not until all is known. What if there are more then the six arrested involved and there is still a threat? I certainly am not happy with how this is being reported. I don’t care is they have pre planned ways in which they handle this I still feel withholding the school is a bad idea.

  3. The schools district wants students in seats so they can collect the state funding. Telling us which school would cause parents to potentially keep their kids home for a few days, costing the district thousands of dollars.
    Money wins again!

  4. It was Golden Valley High school. My daughters goes there.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
