Supervisor Barger Signs Proclamation Declaring State Of Emergency Due To Bobcat Fire

Due to the ongoing Bobcat Fire in the San Gabriel Valley, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, representing the 5th District, signed a proclamation Sunday declaring a state of emergency in the region.

“I just signed a proclamation declaring a local emergency in Los Angeles County because of the  Bobcat Fire and have requested a state proclamation,” wrote Barger in a public post Sunday.

The state of emergency in response to the Bobcat Fire will allow more resources to be allocated in combating the spread of the fire, officials said.

The Bobcat Fire, which has reached 29,245 acres and is currently 6% contained, was the cause for the recent smoke advisory in Santa Clarita.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District has reported smoke from the Bobcat Fire burning near the San Gabriel Valley has caused unhealthy air quality in more than a dozen regions in the Southland.

“It is difficult to tell where smoke, ash or soot from a fire will go, or how winds will affect the level of these particles in the air, so we ask everyone to remember that smoke and ash can be harmful to health, even for people who are healthy,” said Dr. Muntu Davis health officer for Los Angeles County.

In addition to the smoke advisory in Santa Clarita, the Valencia coronavirus testing site in the College of the Canyons parking garage was temporarily closed due to unhealthy air.

The smoke advisory and COVID-19 test site closure both come after the announcement of the closure of the Angeles National Forest for a week, ending September 14. No extension on that closure has been announced as of Sunday afternoon.

Other California national forests closed to visitors include; the San Bernardino, Cleveland, Los Padres, Sequoia, Inyo, Sierra and the Stanislaus.

With this season’s dangerous fire conditions, the Angeles National Forest has already experienced a number of large fires, including the Dam (220 acres), Ranch 2 (4,237 acres) and Lake Fires (31,089 Acres).

  1. This issue is bigger than Barger. It is time for people to realize that the Progressive ideology is simply a failed ideology. It has been given a 20 yr free reign in this state and has resulted in numerous predictable results; Wildfires – Sierra club tells Dem state officials they want no forest management as it isnt natural. Instead, Newsome proclaims this a predictable cause of climate change for even those caused by human hands. Wrong. There is no study that concludes that if CA goes completely carbon neutral that there will not be wildfires. The entire globe could go carbon neutral and only drop the Earth’s atmospheric and oceanic temps by .3 of a degree at most. Homelessness – ACLU sues to close mental and drug facilities and leaves them on the street. Progressives sweeten the deal by creating incentives for others to come here for benefits, none of which actually solve the issue. High taxes and onerous regulation force businesses and people to flee the state by the hundreds of thousands. When will enough be enough people?

  2. True he is not a perfect Supervisor but she is also a far cry from the run-of the-mill communist/socialist militants that run amok thru our local government.

I believe that in most cases we should take a politicians efforts on a case by case view. Sometimes (rarely) even lame anti-American Democrats can come up with a workable solution to a problem that does not require millions more in tax dollars.

Hmmmm I now thats happened in my life sometime, but I cannot remember what century it happened in!

  3. Republican President…
