The annual event saw hundreds of children and their families gathered at Six Flags Magic Mountain Sunday to join in on the holiday festivities and to receive a free gift.
Toys for the children was provided by the ‘Spark of Love Toy Drive,” which is organized by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
On top of the toy, participants were also giving complimentary admission to Six Flags Magic Mountain to enjoy a free day in the park.
L.A. County Firefighters and Explorers facilitated the toy giveaway as children lined up and waited for their turn to choose a gift.
Children were ushered in to see the toys available and were given the chance to select a toy of their choice.
Fire Chief Daryl Osby of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said the event was designed to bring smiles to the children.
“I think this is important to our community and particularly to the children,” said Osby, “We’re putting smiles on kids faces. We’re providing Christmas to these kids in a way that they may not potentially have. It’s very exciting for us and I think it’s very exciting for our kids.”
Gino Hernandez, a senior secretary with the Pasadena Office of Children and Family Services, joined the event with a support team to register families as they arrive.
“Today we’re having a little party” said Gino” They’re going to be doing face painting, there’s pictures with Santa, (and the) fire department is here with the Spark Of Love Toy event distributing toys for all our children here.”
The event is annually organized by Los Angeles County Supervisor Katherine Barger’s office and the offices within her district are a part of the event at Magic Mountain.
