Three Inmates At Pitchess Detention Center Hospitalized Due To Overdoses In Santa Clarita

Three inmates at Pitchess Detention Center were transported to the hospital Monday after suffering from overdoses while at the jail in Santa Clarita.

Around 12:15 p.m. Monday, first responders received reports of three inmates experiencing overdoses at the Pitchess Detention Center on the Old Road in Castaic, said Franklin Lopez, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“Three people were transported to a nearby hospital,” Lopez said.

The incident follows a number of reports of overdoses by inmates at the Pitchess Detention Center. Last month, three Santa Clarita inmates were hospitalized after overdosing.

A recently implemented program by Sheriff Alex Villanueva provides inmates with access to Narcan, a medication that can reverse an opioid overdose if administered quickly.

According to Valerie Silgero, captain of the North County Correctional Facility, inmates watch an informational video on how to administer Narcan twice a day.

  1. Heaven forbid that Villanueva make any attempt at keeping opioids out of the jail system to begin with.

One drug-sniffing dog checking every employee when they enter the facility. Problem solved.
