The incident was reported at about 10:20 a.m. Friday, as a three-vehicle crash on the northbound 5 Freeway, just south of the 14 Freeway interchange, according to Nicolas Prange, spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).
As the area where the crash occurred in a “mutual aid zone,” with both Los Angeles County Fire and L.A. City Fire Department initially crews responding to the scene.
“When it comes to events on the freeway, the County sends units – usually from (Station 73), we send units from our station on Sylmar or Mission Hills,” said Prange. “So the units go in both directions from the north and south and that helps us get there faster.”
Officials on-scene discovered three vehicles involved in the incident, one vehicle was upside down with no persons trapped, according to officials.
There were four patients in total, two in critical condition, and two in fair condition, said Prange.
Two ambulances transported at least two of the patients to a nearby hospital, according to Fire officials.
