Valencia High School Concert Band Performs At Carnegie Hall

The Valencia High School Concert Band had the opportunity to perform in the revered Carnegie Hall on Sunday as part of the Choirs of America’s Harmonic Convergence Concert.

Band Director Mark Judd traveled to New York City with more than 40 members of the school’s wind ensemble and symphonic band to perform in the legendary venue, which has set the bar internationally for musical excellence, according to officials.

“The students have been preparing and rehearsing for this performance for quite a while,” said Judd. “They have all put in many hours of practice after school working towards meeting the high expectations surrounding this amazing opportunity.”

Some of the songs performed by the ensemble included “Kentucky 1800” by Clare Grundman, “On a Hymnsong of Phillip Bliss” by David Holsinger and “Simple Gifts – Four Shaker Songs” by Frank Ticheli.

Despite a busy schedule while in New York, which included an appearance in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, students managed to find some time to take in the city’s attractions, including a Broadway play, a cruise around the Statue of Liberty, and a visit to Times Square.

For an opportunity to support Valencia High School’s musical talent, the next musical performance Valencia students are scheduled to put on is for the upcoming Winter Guard Association of Southern California competition, to be held at Valencia High School on Saturday, March 23 beginning at 10 a.m.

The performance is set to feature the school’s marching band and color guard, according to officials.

All ticket proceeds go to the music and color guard program.
