Valencia High School Identified As Outbreak Facility Following COVID-19 Case Surge

On Tuesday it was revealed in a letter sent to Valencia High School families by Principal Pete Getz that the school’s cheerleading program has experienced an increase in cases in the past days, and the school is in close communication with Health officials.

Valencia High School has had 33 positive COVID-19 cases among our students and staff in the past several days,” said Getz in the email. “These cases were primarily within our cheerleading program, with a few identified in other groups on campus.”

The email also noted that a number of close contacts have been identified on campus with a considerable number of people having possibly been exposed to a positive case. However this does not mean that potential close contacts are not necessarily sick or at risk of transmitting disease.

Due to the increased cases, the school has been identified as an outbreak facility by the L.A. Department of Public health, and a team from LADPH met with school and district staff on Tuesday to review strategies.

“Valencia High School will follow the control measures and actions specified in the ‘Protocol for Management of Outbreaks of COVID-19 in K-12 Schools,’” the email said.

VHS has also been recognized by the LADPH for its efforts to navigate the situation.

According to the email, students are not required to quarantine if they have no symptoms and are fully vaccinated or have recovered from laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 within the last 90 days.

If a student needs to quarantine, Valencia High School staff will provide specific information and directions to support the process, the email said.

“We realize this is a difficult time, and I want to assure you that all safety protocols and regulations are being followed on campus,” Getz said.  Once we have identified either a positive case or close contact, the staff at VHS will maintain open lines of communication with you and your family.”

Moving forward a team member of the LADPH is set to make frequent visits to the school.

  1. Shocker! Have you not seen on social media all the cheerleaders in the SCV not practicing social distancing and COC packed again for the football games! Anyone checking them all in, it’s like going to a outdoor concert. It’s just going to keep going around and around.

    • You’re right. They all died! Oh wait. Nobody died, nor even got very sick. That’s right survival is 99.9999% for children. This is how real herd immunity develops. Also – if you actually have a student there you will know many students got a second test outside the school that was negative, but was told by the school the schools test stands. Many false positives from cheap test.

  2. How many ended up hospitalized, ill, or even symptomatic?

  3. Private schools are not seeing these issues. Oh wait, we don’t test, we just stay home when we have a sick child.

  4. So this Saturday there is a boutique at Valencia High School
Only requirement is wear a mask and social distance
How about having to show a vaccination card?
    Will any customers show up?

  5. Private schools are small. Less exposure.
There are also confidentiality policies at all schools, so you aren’t going to know every detail.
If you don’t test when your son or daughter is sick, you won’t know if they have Covid, and that doesn’t help anyone! You might unknowingly allow them to expose others by sending them back onto campus too soon or expose community members. So if you are sending your child to a Christian private school, or one that claims to encourage good values, I suggest you look in the mirror and remind yourself to do what’s right and consider others.

  6. Smaller schools. Less exposure.
There are confidentiality policies at all schools so you don’t know all details, by the way.
As a parent, if you don’t test your sick child, you won’t know if they have Covid and you could unknowingly expose others by sending them back to campus or out in the community too soon. If you are sending your child to a private Christian school, or one that encourages practicing good values, then be that good example and protect all of God’s Children and test your child, and, better yet, if over 12 vaccinate your child. Just my opinion so we can end the spread of this contagious disease.

  7. Get your sick child tested, so you’ll know how to proceed. Otherwise you may send him or her back to campus too soon and infect others.

  8. If you get your sick child tested, you’ll know how to proceed. If your child has Covid you might unwittingly send them back to campus or out in the community too soon and spread the disease further.

  9. If you get your sick child tested, you’ll know how to proceed. If your child has Covid you might unwittingly send them back to campus or out in the community too soon and spread the disease further.

  10. Fear is a weapon.
These kids are not going to die.
