WriteGirl To Host Annual Fundraiser For Teen Girl Writers

Santa Clarita residents are invited to a red carpet evening event benefiting an organization dedicated to mentoring teen girls, officials said Monday.

On Saturday, April 6, WriteGirl will be holding its annual fundraiser, “Lights, Camera, WriteGirl!,” to support WriteGirl programs.

There will be celebrity actors, a silent auction, raffle prizes, dinner and cocktails at the Linwood Dunn Theater at The Academy in Hollywood from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

“Selected scenes and monologues, written by WriteGirl teens and performed by acclaimed actors, will make a packed audience roar with laughter,” stated the organization.

The event is set to be hosted by actress Lauren Graham from the television show “Gilmore Girls.”

WriteGirl representatives say that some of the actors expected to be in attendance are:

  • Seth Rogen (Superbad)
  • Wendi McLendon-Covey (The Goldbergs)
  • Keiko Agena (Gilmore Girls)
  • Stephanie Katherine Grant (The Goldbergs)

Some of the screenwriters that are expected to be in attendance are:

  • Josann McGibbon (Descendants)
  • Clare Sera (Blended, Smallfoot)
  • Lauren Miller Rogen (Like Father)
  • Liz Kruger (Salvation)

Within a community of women writers, WriteGirl promotes creativity and self-expression to empower girls.

Through one-on-one mentoring and monthly creative writing workshops, girls are given techniques, insights and hot topics for writing in all genres from professional women writers, according to the organization.

Workshops and mentoring sessions explore poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, songwriting, journalism, screenwriting, playwriting, persuasive writing, journal writing, editing and more.

WriteGirl is a Los Angeles-based creative writing and mentoring organization that spotlights the power of a girl and her pen. WriteGirl officials match girls with women writers who mentor them in creative writing.

WriteGirl is a thriving community with 200 volunteer women writers serving more than 500 girls annually. Every year, the organization produces dozens of workshops, panel discussions and special events to help girls get creative, get through high school and get to college, according to officials.

Since 2001, 100 percent of graduating seniors within the organization have entered college, many on full or partial scholarships, according to officials.
