Santa Clarita Life Coach: How To Deal With Your Emotions

Santa Clarita Life Coach Alex Urbina recently opened up a discussion about how to deal with your emotions, which some people often struggle with.

Urbina first pointed out the importance of asking yourself what your personal relationship is with emotions, and what meaning have you given to them.

“Some people see emotions as good, some people see them as bad, some people see them as right or wrong,” he explained. “You have to really look and examine what emotions mean to you.”

For instance, someone who views emotions as bad will typically want to avoid them and not want to feel them. But those who have decided that feeling any kind of emotion is a good thing are better equipped to embrace them and create a space to feel them so that they can “run their course” quicker, according to Urbina.

“When I kind of lay it out like that, now it opens up the possibility that you’re actually choosing how to have an experience through the emotions,” he said.

Urbina shared that he has chosen to create a new belief system around emotions, where he now views them as a healthy, natural, organic process of feeling and connecting, which as a result, has allowed him to create a new relationship with a seemingly negative emotion like pain.

“You’re probably wondering, ‘How can you choose to see pain as a good thing?’” Urbina said. “If you were going through something that I felt like it was something that I had no control over, … and it was causing this pain in my heart, if I allowed myself to experience that pain, that pain is there to teach me something about myself.”

In this case, Urbina’s pain would be a reminder that he is compassionate and cares about other people, whereas if he felt no pain, it would be an indicator that he didn’t have empathy for someone else’s suffering.

“I find joy and fulfillment and purpose in caring for other people or having compassion for other people,” he said. “(My pain) is letting people know that I care about them, that I love them, that they’re important to me, that they matter, so then I am choosing to see now the pain as a gift.”

Urbina continued, “So I’m not in resistance to the pain. I’m learning how to create a new relationship with it, so in theory, I’m now embracing the pain, dancing with the pain, twirling the pain and then letting it go when it’s no longer necessary.”
