Santa Clarita Life Coach: Mastering Worry

Santa Clarita Life Coach Alex Urbina is opening up a discussion about worry, and how to “master” this common state of mind by choosing to live consciously instead of allowing worry to take over.

“I want to … open up this powerful discussion so that hopefully some of us can come to a semi-realization that we are actually in control of what we worry about, and that we are actually at choice to worry about things or not worry about things,” Urbina said.

Urbina noted that Webster’s Dictionary defines worry as “to give way to anxiety or unease” and “to allow one’s mind to dwell on difficulty or troubles,” pointing out that both of these definitions appear to present worrying as a choice.

With that being said, Urbina acknowledged how difficult it can be to stop worrying because it seems to be in the “wiring, coding and DNA” of what Urbina called “the ego.”

“Our ego’s job is to constantly protect us. It’s to keep us safe,” he explained. “(It’s) to be prepared for whatever chaos or troubles or challenges that could be coming down the pipeline.”

Urbina noted that “healthy” worrying takes place in the face of real and imminent danger, when the ego appropriately kicks into overdrive to protect yourself and save your life.

However, if there is no tangible danger, a healthier, conscious response to the unknown is concern instead of worry, according to Urbina.

“You can be concerned about those things and be mindful of them, but also rely on your own ability to handle and navigate circumstances without the worry,” he said. “That’s the distinction, that’s the line that I want to draw for people, is can you operate from an area of concern? ‘I have a concern about this, but I’m not going to cross the line into worry.’”

As a Santa Clarita life coach, Urbina specializes in helping people who are ready to acknowledge the things they are struggling with, such as unhealthy worrying, reach their full potential by experiencing powerful personal transformation.

“The No. 1 thing is to be willing to say, ‘You know what? I do worry and it is affecting me, and I need to figure out how to change that,’” Urbina said.

He continued, “(When) you let your brain run away and you’re no longer in control of your own mindfulness and your own ability to realize that I can actually stop the worrying whenever I decide to, this is usually where we reach out to someone to help us.”
