Dr. Jaimie Ronchetto and her team are planning to have a vendor booth at the event, which aims to celebrate pets, encourage animal awareness and promote pet adoption, according to the event website

“It’s a great event every year,” Ronchetto said. “It’s super successful with adoptions and I think it’s really important. I’m a very big proponent for adopting animals.”

Slated for Sunday, Oct. 13 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hart Park in Newhall, the Bow-Wows & Meows Pet Fair is expected to feature more than 200 adoptable dogs, cats, kittens and puppies from all seven Los Angeles County shelters at a reduced adoption rate.

“They’re good pets,” Ronchetto said of adopted shelter animals. “For the most part, you almost feel like they know that they’ve been rescued, so give them a chance.”

Ronchetto advised anyone looking for a rescue pet to keep their eye out for the less noticeable adoptable animals as well.

“Don’t just go for the really cute, hyper ones that are up front,” she said. “Look for the shy ones, look at the ones that are a little bit scared, because in a home environment, that might totally change. So give them a little bit of extra attention and love and see what you can find.”

In addition to the hundreds of adoptable animals, the family-friendly event also features dog agility performances, the Famous Fun Dog Show, animal-centric shopping, vendor booths, a super raffle, a free photo booth, food trucks, a low-cost vaccine clinic and L.A. County license renewals.

A total of 166 county shelter and rescue animals were adopted at the 2018 Bow-Wows & Meows Pet Fair, and since its inception in 2000, more than 2,650 shelter animals have been adopted out at the annual fairs, according to event organizers.

“Adoption is not only cost-effective, it saves shelter animals and reduces the overpopulation problem,” event officials said. “Shelters and rescues are beyond full with amazing animals of all ages, shapes, sizes and breeds. Please choose adoption for your next family member — you’ll be glad you did!”
