Disneyland Reopening Delayed Until State Approval

Previously announced plans to begin the reopening process of Disneyland and California Adventure by July with restrictions in place in an effort to decrease COVID-19 transmissions, the State of California has temporarily exempt these plans.

Having developed improved health and safety protocols that have been approved in the parks of the Shanghai Disney Resort, Hong Kong Disney Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, the proposed phase opening has begun within global locations to simultaneously allow cast members and guests to return in a health conscious atmosphere.

Because the State of California has yet to establish clear theme park reopening guidelines, the reopening of Disney parks in California are expected to be pushed back until some time after July 4, which is when established guidelines for park safety are scheduled to be finalized.

Because the business will need to be completely restarted from almost four months of dormance at the park caused by the Safer-At-Home order, the reopening of parks will be delayed beyond the time needed by the state to finalize reopening guidelines, so Disney can appropriately address each requirement given by government officials.

Agreements with their unions must also be negotiated before employees are able to return to work and corporate has had the opportunity to have signed agreements from 20 union affiliates, including the Master Services Council which represents over 11,000 of their cast members, according to the entertainment company.

The signed agreement describes various park procedures that detail improved safety protocols that will prevent COVID-19 transmissions upon reopening and bring thousands of cast members back to work.

When both parks are given the authorization to reopen, capacity limits will be limited extensively to comply with governmental requirements and attendance of all members, including Annual Passholders, will be completely based upon a reservation system to comply with social distancing, reads a statement from Disney.

Once a clearer set of guidelines are released by the state, a reopening date is expected to be released.

The Downtown Disney District is scheduled to reopen on July 9 as previously planned in accordance with established health and safety protocols to protect both guests and cast members.

Representing their retail cast at the Anaheim location, the Master Services Union previously signed an agreement for members of the Downtown Disney District to return to work as the location falls in line with restaurant and retail openings that have been previously approved by the state.

  1. Hard to believe the greediest company EVER made a conscious decision to do this! Kudos for that, though!
