The City of Santa Clarita is seeking individual artists or teams to design and display an art installation at the Newhall Community Center, according to a news release.

“The Newhall Community Center and the Arts and Events Division have recently collaborated on activating a lobby space at the center bringing quality art experiences to the public,” the news release explained. “The space that is available includes ceiling and wall space.”

The longest wall surface is 38 feet wide and approximately 12 to 14 feet high, the news release explained.
A corrugated wall behind the counter is 15 feet wide and 15 feet high, the news release continued.
The side wall is 11 feet wide and 15 feet high.

“The city is seeking exhibition proposals from individuals for this space for the upcoming season of displays,” the news release stated.
Oct. 2017 was the first month that artist has been able to display their work, according to officials.

“Their artwork will be there until April, and once the artwork is removed the new artwork will be installed and displayed for six months,” Jeff Barber, arts and events supervisor said. “The deadline to submit artwork that could be put on display come April is Jan. 30.”

Paintings and other 2D work are not accepted for consideration, according to officials.

The space is open to the public, and is offered so that artist can have an opportunity to display their work tp the community, Barber concluded.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
