Newhall Family Theatre Announces Web Series ‘Talking Backstage’ Interviewing Entertainment Industry Locals

“Talking Backstage” aims to give viewers insight into how the industry works through a series of interviews with people who grew up in and attended school in the Santa Clarita Clarita Valley (SCV) and are now working in entertainment.

The interview series is produced by the Newhall Family Theatre in partnership with Mark II Entertainment, hosted by Tom Lund, produced by Will Davies and plans to begin releasing episodes on the Newhall Family Theatre YouTube channel on Sept. 18.

“The goal for the series is to share with students that there are various different paths to achieve a career in entertainment,” said host Tom Lund, theatre manager of the Newhall Family Theatre.

“Talking Backstage” features interviews with people working in various different aspects of the entertainment industry. Career paths examined range from designing lighting and running special events at theme parks, music education, music performance and live theater.

While originally intended to be conducted in person, interviews for the series have instead taken place over Zoom to adapt to coronavirus restrictions.

The broad range of featured careers intentionally reflects the many career paths available to those who wish to work in entertainment.

“When I started in theatre in elementary school, I thought I would be a professional actor,” said Lund, reflecting on the various entertainment roles he has considered pursuing. “By the end of high school, my focus shifted towards the technical side of theatre specializing in lighting design. Years later, my focus shifted again to focus on the business and educational side of theatre.”

Episodes of “Talking Backstage” are set to be released every other week. An extended podcast version of each interview will be published between videos.
