A 7.1 earthquake has been reported Friday in Searles Valley near Ridgecrest, officials said.
Originally reported as 6.9 on the Richter scale, the Friday evening quake has been upgraded to 7.1.
The Ridgecrest earthquake was reported at about 8:19 p.m. about 17 kilometers southwest of Searles Valley, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake was felt across Southern California including the Santa Clarita Valley.

The large earthquake was followed by several aftershocks ranging from magnitude 3.6 to 4.7, according to the USGS.
The 6.9 quake was preceded by a 6.4 foreshock two minutes prior.
