City Council Considering 4 P.M. Curfew, Local Emergency For Santa Clarita

As officials with the City of Santa Clarita prepared for a large protest in Valencia reportedly planned for Thursday, the City Council is set to consider imposing a 4 p.m. curfew on Thursday for the city during an emergency meeting.

The Santa Clarita City Council has called an emergency meeting for 4 p.m. Wednesday to discuss whether or not a local state of emergency should be declared due to a possible large protest that the city may face Thursday.

“There has been widespread criminal acts of arson, looting, assaults, rioting and vandalism to public and private property in nearby cities throughout Los Angeles County since May 30, 2020, and continuing to present,” the proposed emergency resolution reads. “These criminal acts have created conditions that are, or likely to be, beyond the control of local resources and require the combined forces of other political subdivisions to address.”

As part of the local emergency declaration, a curfew lasting from 4 p.m. Thursday, June 4 to 6 a.m. Friday, June 5 has been proposed.

“Peaceful demonstrations are essential to our democratic system, however, during these protests, some individuals have engaged in dangerous and unlawful activity threatening the safety of lawful demonstrators, surrounding businesses, communities and first responders,” the resolution reads.

Los Angeles County has been under a curfew since Sunday evening, which is expected to be continually extended for at least several more days, according to officials.

However, county officials have since stated that “other cities may issue their own stricter curfew orders.”

Similar to the Los Angeles County curfew, the proposed 4 p.m. curfew would not apply to individuals going to or from work, those experiencing homelessness and without a viable shelter and those seeking medical treatment.

The proposed curfew would also not apply to peace officers, firefighters, the National Guard or any other military personnel, according to the order.

Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth is expected to hold a press conference with Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Captain Justin Diez to update the public shortly after the emergency meeting.

City Council Considering 4 P.M. Curfew, Local Emergency For Santa Clarita

  1. This would send a very bad message as protests have been overwhelmingly peaceful and self-policed the last several nights. With the police respecting lawful protesters the tone has evolved to (oh my god!) talking and listening. Curfews have been set for 9:00 countrywide. Are we that scared? we have our capable sheriff department with their swat unit and in addition the national guard is set to be here. Get a damn grip!

  2. MakeRacistsAfraidAgain

4 days of peaceful protests in SCV. 0 arrested, no property damage, no looting, no violence. Where has the city council been for the past week? Not a peep on injustices, the protests, and the state of current affairs. Now when cops spread completely unsupported rumors, let’s freak out? This is an act of a fascist police state to suppress public expression. I am sure no matter what side you stand on you agree that 4PM is completely unreasonable restriction of liberty.

    Black lives matter.

  3. “ overwhelmingly peaceful and self-policed”

Tell that to the people of Santa Monica, Hollywood, fairfax, Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Anaheim, Long Beach, Riverside, Woodland Hills, Van Nuys, New York, Chicago, Maimi, Washington DC, Seattle…..

Don’t gaslight us. We are smarter than you think we are.

    • Us? Who be “us?” A white nationalist group? A 2nd amendment super hero? A paranoid sissy that needs a diaper change?
Who’s ‘gaslighting who? You conveniently left out the “last several days” part. Go pee somewhere else.
You are an insult to the mostly fine people living here in happy valley -aka- The SCV.

      • Ok snowflake. I love how you people, yes, I said you people, love to try and insult but fail. You seem to not watch the news where rioting and looting happened last night. Don’t let facts get in the way of your pamprin vacation

        Troll away

      • Denny you get the troll award of the year. We will throw the gaslighting trophy as well. I have read your comments for years and laughed at them. I guess you’re the village idiot.

  4. This article and its headline need to be revised because the city council voted on a 6 pm Thursday until 6 am Friday curfew. Seeing the 4 pm could incite anger in those who just read the headlines.

  5. Someone should interview the black woman who George Floyd held a gun to her belly while she was pregnant and his friends robbed her apartment and then was beaten on the head by George Floyd with his gun when they were done robbing her. This is why he was in prison for five years, I hope she and her child are in good health. I hope she has overcome her trauma and ordeal.

    • Thanks for repeating your message in this article, so I am repeating my reply to you:

Does that give the cops the right to act as judge, jury and executioner?

If he passed a counterfeit $20 bill, knowingly or unknowingly, then arrest him. No need to brutalize and kill him, especially when he wasn’t resisting.

And to Lisa and certain others, the reason this is such a big deal is because, for once, it was captured on video. There’s no doubt what happened.

I can almost see why you think BLM is a racist organization, but only because blacks see themselves as the ultimate victims of police violence. And I understand why they are offended by the phrase “All Lives Matter.”

It’s just amazing how long it took to begin to deal with Eric Garner’s murderer. Five years to fire him. $5.9 million settlement to his family. And never indicted!

That’s what makes this case special!

      • You’re an idiot! I watched the video and I was livid. I was yelling at the tv for the bystanders to jump on the cop, get him! Of course the idiot cop was crazy. The thing is the corrupt CNN, etc. won’t show you the black on white crimes which are numerous. They won’t show you when a white woman gets gang raped by a bunch of blacks. I have had black friends all of my life and they are normal, never would hurt anyone. I travel all over and have yet to see any kind of racism. But white people are so easily manipulated.
