“There was a jolt,” Knight said, speaking from the train shortly after the crash. “Not a huge jolt, but a jolt … Then as we’re traveling by, you can see the trash truck and the display of trash and everything.”
Knight confirmed that none of the people on the train were injured, but said at least one person was fatally injured and another was taken to the hospital.
“It’s a bad scene out there,” he said.
The Congressman’s wife, Lily Knight, stepped in to help after the crash. A registered nurse, she began tending to anybody with injuries along with several doctors on board the train.
Lily and I were on the train that crashed this morning. We are safe and uninjured. First responders are currently treating those who are hurt. Please keep the victims in your prayers.

“It’s a pretty rural area, it takes a little while for the fire department and an ambulance to get there,” said Congressman Knight. “Lily ran to the back and wanted to get involved and help out. They ended up performing CPR on one of the injured. He ended up passing away.”
The White House confirmed the fatality in a statement by White House press secretary Sarah Sanders
“There is one confirmed fatality and one serious injury,” Sanders said in her statement. “There are no serious injuries among members of Congress or their staff.”
