A reported freeway jumper on an overpass of the 5 Freeway has prompted the closure of both directions, officials said.

UPDATE: 11:00 p.m. — The person on the overpass is now in custody, with all lanes of the 5 Freeway expected to be reopened, according to fire officials.

The incident was reported at about 10:20 p.m.Tuesday on the Valencia Boulevard overpass of the 5 Freeway, but the jumper was later found on the Lyons Avenue overpass, according to Supervisor Rangel with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“(Firefighters) located the jumper on Lyons Avenue,” Rangel said. “They are still on the overpass.”

Both directions of the 5 Freeway are closed as a result of the incident, the northbound is closed at Calgrove Boulevard, with the southbound closed at McBean Parkway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
