At around 2:55 p.m. Saturday, an aircraft crash was reported near Limekiln Canyon Road and Sesnon Boulevard just south of the Santa Clarita Valley, according to officials.

Units with the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) were initially dispatched, but once the exact location was determined to be in Chatsworth, units from the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) were dispatched as it fell under their jurisdiction, according to LACoFD Supervisor Cheryl Sims.

“It is confirmed that there is a plane crash,” Sims said. “We are transitioning command right now from L.A. City Fire to L.A. County Fire.”

Witnesses on scene described the aircraft as a, “single-engine, propeller-driven, fixed-wing two-seat airplane.” Additionally, one individual was killed as a result of the crash

“We have found the remains of one individual on scene,” said Brian Humphrey, spokesman for the LAFD.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
