A woman had started a construction project at home (copper re-pipe), however, when the construction workers took down a wall to place the pipes, many rats came pouring out.
The rats scattered all over her house and infested the kitchen and living room.
The rats started to munch on couches and the kids’ mattresses. Cardon Ellis from Unipest pest control talks on how to use his two favorite rat traps.
“First know exactly what species of rat you’re dealing with and second design a trapping program accordingly,” Cardon said.
Cardon already knew what type of rats he was dealing with based on the videos provided by the client. He examined the feces, and he knew he was dealing with roof rats. Now that he knows the type of rat, he can use the basic wooden base Victor rat trap.
“It’s reliable especially if you get the kind with the metal trigger,” Cardon said.
The wooden Victor rat trap can be placed in cabinets, under couches, and in small areas that kids or pets cannot get into. Placing it in the attic takes care of the alpha rats.

“When placing snap traps in the attic it’s very important that you place these snap traps in the area where the blood and urine trails from the rats are most prevalent,” Cardon said.
To set up the traps take a one-inch by one-inch piece of cardboard and secure it to the metal trigger. Now you can place peanut butter on the trigger part or any food that they are used to eating in the household.
If the household member does not feel comfortable using a wooden base rat trap because they have a small animal, then they can use the electric Victor rat trap. This rat trap is more pet friendly.
The electric rat trap is powered by four c-sized batteries and you are allowed to place the trap wherever you want without harming your pet nearby. This trap works the same as the wooden rat trap.
“Electric traps are best placed up against the walls facing areas where we know that the roof rats go also,” Cardon said.
Most rats will not react right away but eventually they will approach the traps.

“Roof Rats”, just another PC excusing that the rats are on the roof, and Not in the house. To excuse cleanliness and lack of observation of filthy rats! Buried near the end we were told the rats were all inside the house! Please stop trying to hide/excuse the truth/facts/reality!
You do know that roof rats is the name of the species right? Roof rats aka black rats, ship rats (Rattus rattus) etc…
The best way to identify rat entry points is with a professional who is trained and experienced in finding these holes. They re not always obvious and leaving even one open can lead to re-infestation.
