Egyptian Cotton Vs Bamboo Sheets: What Wins The Battle Of Comfort?

When you think of luxurious sheets, super soft bedding, the first thing that clicks to your mind might be Egyptian cotton. Recognized for its deluxe softness and durability, this bedding is one of the best choices for those looking for ultimate sleeping comfort.

But a new battle for comfy bedding preeminence has started in recent times on the market putting Egyptian cotton against the new bamboo bedding options.

We all understand the importance of a fine quality bedding as it determines how well we sleep at night. Detailed comparisons, guides, and a vs. b ( like you see on SleepDelivered.com ) are some of the areas you need to explore in order to select the right bedding. Egyptian cotton and bamboo sheets both have their unique qualities that make them a tough challenger in this battle of comfort.

Let’s discuss what makes these two fabrics unique and dominant over each other in this battle.

Luxury – Luxury SheetsThe Steps Used for Converting Bamboo into Bamboo Cloth & Bedding

Egyptian cotton is called the ‘king of all cotton’ due to its luxurious feel and durability. It is considered to become softer after every wash. On the other hand, Bamboo sheets give a silky and soft touch and are not at all slippery.

Comfort

Egyptian cotton is a breathable fabric and helps absorb water from the body. This cotton fabric has the capability to generate extra long fibers. Extra long fibers make thinner threads which result in higher thread counts. Higher thread count means more softness and durability.

On the contrary, Bamboo sheets are considered naturally more breathable than cotton. It has the ability to absorb sweat and does not adhere to the human body, even in the hottest temperatures. These sheets have natural thermal regulating abilities due to which these sheets can be contentedly warm during winters and can give adequate coolness during the hot season.

Health

Bamboo sheets have the special natural anti-bacterial properties and are Hypoallergenic and prevent the user from various allergic reactions. And since this is organic, it is a fabric that is preferred by those suffering from asthma and other lung related problems.

The use of bamboo fiber makes these sheets completely healthy for the user as these are resistant to bacteria build-up. Moreover, bamboo sheets are defiant to dust mites and pathogens and keep bugs away from the bed.

Cotton does not have any specific health benefits like bamboo, but is gentle to skin.

Similar to this is the pure silver cotton towels that are known to be softest most absorbent bath towels

Environment

Not only are bamboo sheets very soft and luxurious for sleeping in, they are also extremely sustainable. Bamboo is a rapidly-renewable fiber that grows amazingly quick, and produces much more fiber per acre of land used when evaluated against cotton.

In addition, bamboo does not need pesticides and other agricultural chemicals to be grown.

Cotton, on the contrary, is the most pesticide-intensive crop on the planet, making it exceptionally toxic for the environment and for those sleeping on the finished cotton sheets.

So, who wins the battle – Egyptian cotton or Bamboo sheets? The decision is based on what you choose…

  1. Why cant I just get the stait up answer about DURABILITY, bamboo ARE THEY durable ,does the processing of bamboo actually weeken the durability of the fabric it creates? 0r Is it to remain stong as unprocessed bamboo? And when wet too?

    • Wendell,

I found a really good article about the pro’s and con’s of Bamboo sheets. Go to Cozyearth. com.

    • Although this article seems to be written with a bias towards to bamboo bedding, I can personally attest to the durability of bamboo. I’ve been using my bamboo sheets (from another company) since 2011 and it’s still as amazingly soft and strong as ever and has never ever pilled. I will never go back to cotton after having experienced bamboo. I literally feel my stress melt away whenever I slip into my sheets.

      • I’ve been reading all about the different types of cottons and Egyptian cottons and bamboo trying to figure out which one is better. Because of you I decided against egyptian cotton and am going for bamboo. Thank you!

      • I too love my bamboo Have them since 2010. They are very soft. And the bottom sheet has NOT worned down or ripped. I bought Jennifer Lopez Egyptian Cotton sheets very expensive and the bottom sheet worn out before 2 years.
        love the bamboo sheets

      • I agree. I haven’t changed from bamboo after I tried them. Very durable, so easy to maintain.

    • I like all the good qualities of the sheets, however when I read that cotton growers use the most pesticides I decieded that bamboo is the best choice for us.

    • My bamboo sheets by Cozy Earth are super soft BUT my pillows are a wrinkled mess!

  2. For $40 bucks give ’em a try and see for your self.

  3. I bought my bamboo sheets at Bed BAth and Beyond. I sleep alone and mine shred after less than 2 years. I use bleach, but this has never happened to me with any of my prior sheets. Also, they were not absorbent like cotton. As a result if I became hot during the night (which I often do) I would find my sheets damp. Grossed me out.

    • I bought Regular cotton sheets from BB&Beyond and after 4 years they ripped, so it could just be the quality of items they are carrying. They were however, used for an Airbnb, so maybe too many repeated washings also wore them out. I alternated two sets of sheets, so far only one has torn.

    • Judi stop sleeping alone. I could not resist.

      • perhaps? they were sweaty because she was “going through the change” —

On a serious note… to add bleach and think it wouldn’t be a problem and/or to think the materials & fibers would react to bleach the same as another material entirely isn’t logical.

In fact, in the US, as detergent alone becomes more and more concentrated, we end up using way too much detergent and and even just clothes detergent can damage the fabrics. I read this in Consumer Reports. We would easily do well with far less. So that alone could improve it. The other seems to be either she or the husband wear socks!

  4. Have had a pair of bambo sheets since 2012
Never bleach. Heavey when wet. Dog hair does stick.so light and silky but soft. Just bought my second set 2017. 5 years….a few ripes starting… haha dog nails yes my dogs sleep with me

  5. You must wash bamboo sheets by themselves, not with any other materials especially cottons and/or rough materials like most towels, jeans, etc. are made or, and not overdry them, and they will last for a really long time.

  6. I recently bought one set of bamboo sheet from an online site. The feel of the sheet is really comfy and nice. Also, I believe my allergic reactions during the night lessened because of it. It’s worth a try!

  7. A friend told me about bamboo sheets a few years ago. I have insomnia and have difficulty getting to sleep. From day one the bamboo sheets just helped me to relax and they are soft as can be. They are rather expensive but you can watch for sales. Watch out for “blends” that are not 100% bamboo. I find them to be nice and cool as well. I have a tencel mattress cover.

  8. My vote is for bamboo sheets. since i think there are many benefits of bamboo sheets then Egyptian Cotton. There are a lot of reasons to love bamboo. The plant is sustainable, grows quickly, and is naturally antimicrobial and moisture wicking. So it’s no surprise that sheets made from bamboo are growing rapidly in popularity – and it doesn’t hurt that they’re super soft, too.

  9. I was so fortunate enough to buy some bamboo sheets in 2 different countries and they were on the pricey side but let me tell you it was money well spent I have 2 sets so therefore I alternate them they are amazing they run about $180.00 and come w/ a 15 year warranty it was the best money I’ve ever spent even my husband on the last trip said are you going to get another set of those sheets and he’s not one to really comment on things like that so I did but watch out bc there is knock off brands and the real ones the more you wash them the better they are

    • Are the sheets you use available on line? Do you iron pillowcases? With what result? What is it you personally most care about in a sheet? I grew up with good percale sheets, and cannot find any similar now, and others have said the same. I like the theory of bamboo, but have no clue as to the living-with. Do they really have to be washed alone?

  10. Definitely bamboo! I got a couple of sheets in my home and I would ever buy another type of sheet other than bamboo. They are the most comfortable sheets ever existed.

  11. Abosuletly bamboo. I have never slept on anything so comfortable!! Worth the extra money and work to keep them nice.

  12. I have just bought bamboo/cotton sheets 600 thread from Adairs just lightly rinsed a pair of pillow cases just to test them as I have a heap of sheets ext on order. Spent a fortune so hope the turn out ok as I love the colour. are the comments above above bamboo and cotton sheets or just banboo
    thank

  13. I don’t know if she was the bamboo all the Egyptian cotton so somebody can to tell me which one is better because other the first time I’m really trying to get some feel-good sheets I just want some nice sheets and I wish you can tell me which is better either the bamboo or the Egyptian figured out you guys let me know before I buy anyting thank

  14. I bought Egyptian Cotton sheets due to night sweats and being hot all the time. I ended up returning them after one week because they didn’t help. Now I am on to bamboo sheets. I have heard some about this ‘moisture wicking poly nylon fiber’ sheet too. So that may be an option in the future for me also.

  15. Yes these bamboo bed sheets really very fanatic. I thumbs up this post. You post is really very fantastic. Keep it up!

  16. Bamboo sheets wrinkle like crepe paper and near impossible to iron and contrary to this article bamboo is not sustainable as it doesn’t bio-degrade due to plastic (nylon) fibres in this fabric mix as well as the harsh chemical process used to extract bamboo fibres. Thanks but no thanks

    • I found the research indicating bamboo is not bio-degradable, but it is outdated. Maybe because of the laws that were instituted since the article?
The current information I found says:
      BAMBOO’S IMPACT ON ENVIRONMENT:
Fiber source: natural, bamboo fibers blended with cotton
Biodegradable: yes, organic bamboo is broken down quickly with natural enzymes to produce a fabric and is often a more expensive process, manufacturers estimate that it takes 4 to 6months for organic bamboo to biodegrade naturally, if organic cotton is blended, it can take as little as 1 to 5 months for organic cotton to completely biodegrade, close to an apple core which takes approximately 2 months
Destruction: moderate, may use toxic chemicals, can be energy intensive, if organic cotton is used, it is grown on fields where the soil is free of all artificial pesticides or insecticides, “Up to 16% of the world’s pesticides are used in (non-organic) cotton farming every year. The chemicals degrade soil and pollute water as well as poisoning cotton pickers”, grown without harmful chemicals, doesn’t destroy ecosystems, known to improve soil quality
Sustainability: good, very renewable, uses very little water, no pesticides are used or needed

Organic Bamboo is *Sustainable, *Eco-Friendly, *Biodegradable

While they may take a little longer to break down than cotton, I have read that bamboo sheets if properly cared for can last up to 20 years. The ones I recently purchased have a lifetime warranty. I think if you are using them longer there would be less waste.

  17. For me there is no comparison. Bamboo by far is more comfortable. I bought a set of king size that comes with 4 pillowcases from Cariloha and though I thought I had gone mad to spend 199 (at the time) for the set I was overjoyed with how they felt and after 5 years I noticed a small hole in the bottom sheet. I call the customer service department and they immediately sent out a new set with a label to send back the original set. You get what you pay for in bamboo.

  18. For me there is no comparison. Bamboo by far is more comfortable. Oh try their underwear.i will never wear anything but bamboo boxer briefs

  19. I’m looking for a fabric that is tightly woven and breathable. Is bamboo and/ or Egyptian Cotton a fabric I’m looking for?

  20. I live in the north. Egyptian cotton bed sheets with a high thread count, 1200, means a heavier sheet that is also silken smooth. I cannot find a single solitary appraisal of bamboo that reflects a heavier sheet, i.e. with a norm of 300 threads per inch. For winter, a light, airy sheet is NOT what I am looking for. Apparently then, there is no such thing as a heavier bamboo sheet?

  21. Ahhh, what sounds nicer than a pair of silk pajamas or nestling into clean silk sheets? You ll feel like royalty. Silk is a natural protein fiber made from the cocoons of silkworms. It is incredibly soft, strong, and is an excellent thermoregulator, keeping you cool when it is warm and warm when it is cool. All that being said, perspiration can easily weaken and stain silk, and therefore any fabric in contact with the skin (like, say, pajamas and sheets) should be cleaned regularly. Silk can absorb a lot of moisture, and that means a lot of sweat if you tend to perspire at night. It is also generally recommended that silks be cleaned with dry cleaning methods. Therefore, while certainly luxurious and comfortable, silk may not be the most practical choice for sleepwear and bedding. But, if you d like good insulation, a super soft fabric, and don t mind the dry-cleaning bill, then these might be worth looking into!
