A Santa Clarita auto body shop is offering the community a post-accident information checklist, printable from their Facebook page, to place in vehicles.

Cesar Ranuschio, owner of Body Shop 661, noted that he is often asked what people should do after a car crash, and so he created the checklist for easy reference later.

“It’s good to have,” Ranuschio said. “When you get in an accident, you get so nervous that you don’t know what to get. It’s happened to some of my family members.”

Thanks to modern technology, Ranuschio noted that most of the required information can be obtained by simply taking pictures using a smartphone, while certain things should be jotted down. 

The Body Shop 661 Post-Accident Information Checklist includes: 

• Photo of the other party’s driver’s license;
• Photo of the other party’s insurance card, with policy number and name of the insurance company;
• Phone number of the other party;
• Photos of the accident and damage of both vehicles;
• Photo of the license plate number of the other vehicle; and
• Time and location of the accident, including street names and nearby establishments to reference.

“So many people forget the phone number,” Ranuschio said. “(It’s) so important. You’ve got to get their phone number.” 

Once it’s time to contact a Santa Clarita auto body shop, Ranuschio emphasized the importance of having a written estimate provided so there are no surprises later. 

“You need something in writing, detailed, thing by thing of what’s getting done,” he said. “And me, I like to talk, so when you come in, I’m going to tell you exactly what I’m doing in detail (and) why I’m doing it … while you’re there, just so you see everything and you know how we’re doing it.”
