Santa Clarita Ranks Most Business Friendly City In Los Angeles County

A recent survey found that Santa Clarita ranked the most business-friendly city in Los Angeles County, officials said Friday.

The City of Santa Clarita provides multiple advantages that inspire small businesses and large corporations to make Santa Clarita their home base, according to the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation.

The business-friendly reputation was reinforced with the release of the 2018 Kosmont-Rose Institute Cost of Doing Business Survey, which ranked Santa Clarita among the best cities for doing business in Southern California, according to officials.

Cities included in the survey were selected prior to data being collected for the survey and are ranked based on municipal and county taxes, fees and other demographics, the study found.

Santa Clarita was recognized as a low-cost city due to its low property tax rates, no utility tax and several other business benefits in comparison to neighboring cities, such as Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena and Los Angeles, according to city officials.

“Some cities put taxes on businesses payroll and phone bills,” said Jason Crawford, the Planning and Economic Development Manager for Santa Clarita.

“There are taxes that are charged to business in the county that the city doesn’t have control over,” he said.

Santa Clarita is Los Angeles County’s third-largest city, with a population of approximately 225,000 and continues to support diverse, high-performing businesses.

Santa Clarita continues to attract new businesses to the area, such as Illumination Dynamics at The Center at Needham Ranch, Laemmle Theatres in Old Town Newhall and Porsche at the Valencia Auto Center.

The Kosmont-Rose Institute Cost of Doing Business Survey is the product of a partnership between Kosmont Companies, a Los Angeles business and real estate advisory group, and The Rose Institute of State and Local Government at Claremont McKenna College.

The survey has been conducted each year since 1995 and takes a close look at the cost of doing business in the Western United States which includes California, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Washington.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
