The Santa Clarita City Council is set to discuss the final tract map for the Vista Canyon community development planned for the east side of the City of Santa Clarita.

The new development will span approximately 185 acres and will include office, retail and residential areas offering both houses and luxury apartments.

The community is oriented towards public transportation, as it is planned to prominently feature a transit center as well as a Metrolink light-rail stop.

“In terms of economic development, Vista Canyon is a significant new project for the Santa Clarita Valley,” said Holly Schroder, President and CEO of Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation. “It creates a job center on the east side of the Santa Clarita Valley. Long term, this project will create 4,000 permanent jobs for the Santa Clarita Valley, and in the short term, it will create several thousand construction jobs.”

The first constructed housing units are planned to be available for occupancy by 2019, however, development is scheduled to continue through 2022.

Elsewhere, the initial raising of walls marked the launch of phase 1 of construction for the business park development, The Center at Needham Ranch.

Representatives from the two companies involved in the project, Trammell Crow Company (TCC) and Clarion Partners, city officials and community members gathered to celebrate the beginning of phase 1 of construction of The Center at Needham Ranch.

“Our walls are going up on our first three buildings and we are excited to finally be delivering this long-anticipated project with Clarion Partners,” said John Balestra, Senior Vice President with TCC’s SoCal – Los Angeles Business Unit.

The commercial real estate development initially broke ground in December 2017, but Phase 1 construction will establish the first three of seven state of the art buildings planned in total for the campus.

The Center at Needham Ranch is planned to consist of an approximately 4.3 million-square-foot, 7-building, Class A industrial park offering buildings in a variety of square footage on its 135-net-acre site, according to officials.

The new business campus plans to offer flexible spaces capable of operating as industrial, office, or research and development facilities.

“The City of Santa Clarita is an award-winning community that provides a lower cost of doing business and a high quality of life with expedited permit processing with an abundance of available housing, retail and recreational amenities” said Philip Tsui, Vice President for TCC’s SoCal Los Angeles Business Unit. “We truly appreciate the commitment and dedication of the City of Santa Clarita leadership and city staff to supporting our efforts to provide a best in class business park.”

Structures built as part of phase 1 are scheduled to open for occupancy in Spring 2019.

  1. Excuse me but Metrolink Is heavy rail and not light rail. As in a regular train.

  2. More construction. Again- where will the water come from?? I thought there was a water shortage? This is an outrage! I will never again be intimidated into cutting my water usage!! Again I ask : where will the water come from???
