Other warning signs of pornography addiction include:
- Difficulty or inability to spend free time without watching pornography
- Scheduled or habitual pornography use, even when it no longer feels exciting
- Neglecting responsibilities and relationships to watch pornography
- Avoiding social outings in favor of watching pornography
- Feelings of shame or inadequacy tied to pornography use
- Watching pornography instead of getting adequate sleep
- Lying to or arguing with a partner about the amount of time spent watching pornography
Jorgensen explained that, paradoxically, the shame a person feels about their addiction can drive them further into addictive behaviors. She calls this the “addictive cycle,” saying that it’s important for those suffering from pornography addiction to address the shame underlying their need to engage in compulsive behaviors.
