Turner’s Outdoorsman Opening Santa Clarita Location

Turner’s Outdoorsman, touted as “California’s leading hunting, shooting and fishing specialty store,” is set to open a new Saugus location in early August.

Turner’s Outdoorsman carries an assortment of firearms, ammunition and fishing resources. The California chain started as a single store in Long Beach in 1971 and has expanded to 27 locations, with Santa Clarita being home to No. 28.

The philosophy of the outdoor shop is to support and encourage local hunting and fishing communities, according to their website.

“Unlike the national chains, we take an active role in the communities we live in. We promote local youth fishing tournaments, conduct various hunting and fishing seminars, host the largest hands-on shooting fair in the state,” said officials on their website.

Turner’s Outdoorsman aims to provide hunting and fishing products at a competitive price while providing personal service.

Santa Clarita residents looking to utilize new fishing equipment acquired from Turner’s can fish at Castaic Lake, a state recreation area.

Despite a local social media post saying that Turner’s Outdoorsman is not permitted to sell firearms, this is not true, according to officials.

“Firearm stores as a whole are not restricted in Santa Clarita,” said Kevin Strauss, communication specialist for the City of Santa Clarita. “Their permit has been approved as a sporting goods store.”

Turner’s Outdoorsman is similar to Dick’s Sporting Goods, where they sell multiple items, and guns being one of them, Strauss said.

Turner’s Outdoorsman is expected to open in early August at 26613 Bouquet Canyon Road.

  1. Yes. I love a city that stand still for all our rights. LA made it very difficult for sporting goods stores to sell firearms and ammo. And Dicks, refer to the name, they don’t sell guns n ammo but you cN still buy a YETI….I hope Turners will carry Cordova products. Better than YETI and supports the 2nd………..

  2. Promotion of more firearms… just what we need. Because it is SO DIFFICULT to purchase weapons in Los Angeles County.

  3. Looking forward to this store opening in SCV. Turners in Reseda is worst then the DMV and the Palmdale store can be inconvenient at times. It will be interesting to see how this turns out due to our local Dicks store does not sell guns and ammo . From what the employee told me was they were not approved to sell guns and ammo and they referred me to their Palmdale location.

  4. fantastic news!!!! love that place

  5. Tackle Express is a better place to buy your Fishing for offshore and lakes. I don’t see them lasting too long

    • I second that for fishing equipment . Chad and his team from Tackle Express are fantastic and friendly. The longest lines at Turners is for hunting and sport shooting. Very seldom do I see someone walkout with fishing equipment.

  6. Hoplophiles rejoice; another horror house is coming! I’ll bet they are too.

  7. Good to hear…I hope they are very successful.

Remember folks, If you don’t like the idea of them being here…you have a choice! Don’t go there.

For those of us who like to fish, camp, hike, enjoy outdoor sports, and hunt and go sport shooting at the range…we’ll keep them busy.

  8. How can it be so close to Emblem Elementary.
State and federal law prohibits it within a 1000 feet.

    • Get out your ruler. It is just over 1000 feet away. Do you not think the City when issuing a permit wouldn’t have checked this?

    • State and federal law DOES NOT prohibit it. It only applies to people in a school zone during hours of operation. Businesses, homeowners, etc are exempt. You must be one of those people who want to disarm the sheriffs and police.

See this was a law to make people like yourself Denise feel all warm and fuzzy inside that a law, that does nothing, will protect you.

Read up on your laws before you post. This location is at a great spot and is going to do well. I will be one of the first in line on opening day when they have some of their best specials.

  9. Great news! I was going to buy a new firearm, but I will wait for our local Turners store to open! I’ll buy it then! Support our neighborhood stores!

  10. I only hope there will be plenty of parking and wait times not like the DMV’s, taking a ticket with #67 and they are presently attending ticket # 20. Santa Clarita Turners will be a huge success if they have plenty of knowledgeable people working the counters. We all wait long enough to get somewhere on our freeways without having to wait just as long to give someone our hard earned money.

  11. What the heck? Feeling sick to my stomach that a murder shop plans to open just down the street from our house. And a school just a stone’s throw away – how in the world is that even legal. We HAVE to stop the gun madness in this country. 310 people shot every day and a gun murder rate over 25x other western countries is a sickening tragedy.

    • Jeff your numbers are way off. Our shooting deaths in the US for 2018 was 14,600 so that comes out to 40 people each day. Our car crash deaths for 2018 was 37,461 which is just over 100 people per day . One last fact for you . In 2018 70,200 people died from an overdose which is just over 192 people per day. Keep in mind that as of today in the united states there are 329,320,946 documented citizens. So you do the math on that . HINT: Our shooting deaths are less then half 1% of our total population. This country has bigger fish to fry then shooting deaths.

    • Hitler, Stalin, Chairman Mao, and Pol Pot all agree with you Jeff. First thing they did when they came to power: outlaw ownership of guns.

    • Feeling safer now that a store like Turners is nearby

  12. The shooting of multiple persons Saturday Aug. 3rd in El Paso marks the THIRD MASS SHOOTING in the US. What has become common-place here is nearly unheard of anywhere else among major countries.
And yet, as evidenced here on this page, so many continue to worship firearms. Why? Let’s face it, guns are deadly. Guns kill people. Mostly all are innocent victims. Rarely, in fact almost never, does a good guy with a gun save the day. Texas is an open-carry state. That alone should scare the hell out of any sane person but what happens when a shot is heard (or maybe someone mistakes it for a gunshot) and bunches of armed citizens pull out their weapons and begin firing? And why does anyone feel so cowardly they the need to arm up just to shop at a WALMART? What do they fear, guns?
Don’t even start with your 2nd amendment crap either; that has been so distorted it has become the opposite of its intended purpose which was to maintain a well-trained militia, not to have automatic or semi-automatic killing machines and high-capacity magazines. When a so-called “right” is abused, as in this case, it must be abolished for the safety of all.

    • Clarification: …the third mass shooting in the US THIS WEEK.

      • And thank God we will be able to buy more guns to protect ourselves and our loved ones from crazy people like the person in El Paso.

If you want to sit unarmed in your house, go ahead.

    • Denny,
Are you ready to trade in your car for a horse ????? 37,000+ people died in 2018 in car crashes. 11,000 of those 37,000+ people died from drunk drivers. Shooting deaths are far less and the national average included suicides.

    • CORRECTION: GUNS DON’T KILL PEOPLE……PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE. GUNS GIVES US THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROTECT OUR LOVED ONES. YOU GO AHEAD AND DEPEND ON THE AUTHORITIES TO PROTECT YOUR FAMILY WHILE AN INTRUDER IS IN YOUR HOME. GOOD LUCK!

  13. Oooh, this is so exciting. Where do we place our bets on where the first mass shooting in Santa Clarita will be? Thanks for opening a store that promotes the killing!

    • Lauri , Turners promotes killing????? Please provide to all us readers on how many Turners customers have killed someone with a firearm they purchased at Turners??? We’ve had more people die in our town from car crashes and DUI’s then shootings. Shut your mouth

    • You agree with Hitler, Stalin, and Chairman Mao. Disarm the populace???!! No way!! This’ IS ‘MERICA!!! It’s my constitutional American right!!!! Maybe you should move to France.

  14. Denny your comment is this (When a so-called “right” is abused, as in this case, it must be abolished for the safety of all.)

So when do we start working on abolishing the 1st amendment of the constitution?

Oh that’s right! That’s why the second amendment is there!!!

Remember people kill people not the store or the guns in it, Lauri! Lets put all you gun haters energy in to helping the mentally ill and getting kids out of gangs!! Because that is the true problem here.

Thank you Turners for providing your services here in Santa Clarita!

    • The irrational love of guns (hoplophile) IS a mental illness,
just as wearing camo is playing dress up.

Your response following the weekend’s carnage shows
you don’t care and have bought into the NRA propaganda.

There is nothing wrong with the first or second amendment,
as written. As practiced, not so good.

Go ahead and open the Turners store, but w/o the gun department.
Buy your coolers, tents, camping and fishing gear, clothing and whatever
else you think you need to go outside, but leave the weapons out!

  15. On average, there are 10 non-boating drownings PER DAY in the US alone. Worldwide, drowning is in the top 5 causes of death among 1-14 year olds in 48 countries. Where’s the outcry to outlaw swimming pools? Should we drain the lakes? And using the logic and comments above, can we assume that swimming pools contractors and bathing suit manufacturers promote death?

    • That is an obviously false equivalency, Eric,
just like driving cars or flying on a plane.

When someone comes under deadly gun
      fire, they have no choice.

And Eric, how do you rationalize the slaughter
that occurred in our nation over the weekend?

      • What choice did the mom have when she was killed by the 21 year old drunk driver on Golden Valley? Based on your thought process we should all trade our cars in for horses.

        • OK, Mandy- Do you find these mass murders by gunfire to be acceptable?
          Is there some higher purpose?
Most adults drive; it’s necessary. Being killed or injured by a drunk driver is unacceptable. Your equivalency is deeply flawed and I’ll bet you have no response.

          • Taking someone’s life is never acceptable and I never said it was. Based on facts we have a greater problem with mental illness and drugs here in America. California has the strictest gun laws in the country. If the entire country wants to pass guns laws like CA I’m fine with that due to I am a law abiding citizen. Guns are not evil, people are. Do you really think if the world rid itself of all guns then people would stop killing people? You’re pointing blame in the wrong direction as well as blaming Turners. How do you fix a problem???? First you need to establish what the actual problem is . The mind is the deadliest weapon out there and people need to be monitored. I would prefer if we had less violent video games and movies out there due to it can inspire those with mental illness to lose sight of reality. Do we have a problem in this country??? We sure do and it should be handled the proper way but blaming guns and sporting good stores is not answer nor the solution.

          • Mandy, yes, we have a problem in this country; many problems.

The mental sickness is a part that is inspired by the constant drum-beat of divisiveness and bigotry coming from our president.

Of the three most recent mass murders, at least two were racially motivated. Rhetoric such as “Send her back” and calling immigrants rapists and murderers feed that hate.

Turner’s is a part of the problem because they, among others, provide those weapons used.

Military assault weapons have no place in our neighborhoods. They should all be banned and bought back to be destroyed.

Turners would not even be a part of this story except for the fact, by their own choice, they deal in death weaponry.

  16. So should we close all Home Depots, Lowes and hardware stores ? Those two assholes that planted bombs at the Boston Marathon were made from items that I could get at a hardware store. So based on your comments those stores sell death weaponry as well. You do realize the shooter in Daytona supported The Left? His hate massages on social media clearly stated what political party he supported and was going to vote for. So how would that be Trumps fault? You do realize that the shooter at the garlic festival was 19 years old. Do you also realize that Turners are only located in California and the shooter lived in Nevada. With that said the 19 year old would not have been able to purchase that rifle due to what reason ???? You need to be 21 to purchase a rifle and now the new law in CA requires you to be 21 for any gun. Turners and the DOJ do a very good job at background checks. In fact you can be denied on your DROS for even a collection debt, registration, out standing medical bill. I seem to be hitting you with facts yet you’re only hitting me with your own personal opinion which I might add has zero weight to it . Trump did it , shame on turners BAN ALL GUNS!!!!!! Give me a break and grow a pair.

    • We should get rid of knives also. Look at all the stabbings today in Orange County.

GUns are not the problem. It’s mental illness and criminals. I am one of millions of gun carrying citizens who does not commit crimes with guns or go out killing anyone.

Gun control is the only narrative the left has and it isn’t the right one.

    • Thank you Mandy for all your excellent comments and facts.

Denny has made a complete fool of himself.

      • Mandy is a dancer. She’s all over the place with false equivalencies and deflections.
        Examples:
Drunk drivers/horses? The discussion is about guns.
If there were no guns people would still kill.= Yes. But without rapid fire assault weapons capable of killing 9 people in thirty seconds it would take much longer and there would be many opportunities to stop it.
She ignorantly blames “The Left” as though it is all inclusive when what she is pointing to is an extremist group much like the extreme right.
She conveniently ignores Trump’s divisive and hate-filled rhetoric that is slitting apart our country when his job is to protect and unite us.
Mandy lied about my wanting to ban all guns. I clearly said all assault weapons.
And, my absolute favorite! “Grow a pair”. This to one who is unafraid- from one who feels she needs guns. WOW- That’s hypocrisy in print!
What Mandy has done is to obfuscate the issue of guns by mixing in non-relative items in an attempt to dilute the facts. Also she changes the subject, a classic move by right-wingers. The problem is, she’s not that good at it. Anyone (almost) can see by a simple reading how she has attempted to twist my comments to mean something other that what I’ve said. But Chris, that’s good enough for you, right?
So, let me ask, who has made a complete fool of herself?

        Hardware stores

        • Boy you’re going to keep this flap jack on the griddle aren’t you ?? I am actual not a dancer . In fact I just graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University with my Masters. For the past 10 years I’ve worked out in Palmdale as an Aerospace Engineer . I do my part in serving my country as my Father did as a Detective in Law Enforcement and my brother is currently in the Air Force. I’m curious to what scares you more ??? Is it actual guns you’re afraid of or a 33 year old girl like myself that uses her brain, sticks to facts and loves her country. Even though we do not see eye to eye on this subject I’d like to invite you out to California Tactical one Saturday. Perhaps I can show you how to handle a gun and maybe just maybe your knees wont knock anymore when it comes to firearms.

        • Pretty sure Turner’s doesn’t sell “Rapid Fire Assault Weapons” unless you define that to mean every modern firearm. Big 5 has been selling firearms and ammo locally since 1987, have you been freaking out about Big 5 this whole time?

          • I hope you are correct on that, Nolan. And no, not about Big 5 (since 1987). These mass shootings have escalated only in the last dozen years or so. Until then firearms were not as much an issue.
The leading cause of gun deaths is not mental illness but the availability of guns. There are more guns in this country than people. I have nothing against responsible gun ownership; but why so many?
I’m rather surprised, surprised and disappointed, that such an upstanding white Christian (predominantly) community is so frightened that they worship their guns more than their god.

    • Your rock Mandy. I would like to know which local school Denny works at. LOL

  17. Nope. No sale…

  18. LMAO !!!!!!!! I’ll show you how to handle a gun …………. I think I just fell in love . Mandy you rock .
    #2020LetsmakeLiberalscryagain

  19. Hitler, Stalin, Chairman Mao, and Pol Pot all agree with you Jeff. First thing they did when they came to power: outlaw up ownership of guns.

  20. Hell yeah I can’t wait to buy everything I can afford in the ARMS department!!!! When will they open?
