Unipest Termite and Pest Control put a smoke bomb to the test to try and get rid of gophers for a client.
The smoke bomb is called the “Giant Destroyer.” The first step in trying to get rid of gophers is making sure you actually are dealing with gophers. It can be very difficult identifying what kind of mammal you are dealing with if you never see what they look like.
Considering gophers hide from humans a lot, you may need to bring in a professional.
The obvious signs of having gophers is tunneling in dirt and soil. There will be extensive tunneling as gophers try to create various ins and outs through the soil. Since gophers take out the soil while building these tunnels, there will be large amounts of dirt on your lawn.
This is an obvious sign that something is digging through your lawn.
The second step is having proper protective equipment and tools. You will need safety glasses and protective gloves. Unipest uses a trowel so you can easily dig soil out and get into the tunnels. It is important that you do not waste the smoke bomb by not digging all the way into the tunnels.

The trowel must dig deep enough so the smoke can make its way through the tunnels. You should then light the smoke bomb and make sure the fuse is pointed into the tunnel head first so the gas can stay inside the tunnels. You should also cover up the tunnel so the gas stays inside the tunnels.
The “Giant Destroyer” smoke bomb is not a perfect solution to gophers. Even the workers at Unipest are not sure it will work one hundred percent of the time. However, it is a great low cost alternative to getting rid of gophers. If the gophers do not come around anymore, then it is safe to say that the smoke bomb worked.
Unipest Termite and Pest Control in Santa Clarita recommends the smoke bomb for small infestations of gophers. If there is a giant infestation, they recommend using a trapping system so you can physically see if you caught the gopher or not.
