The planning commission previously approved Vista Canyon in 2011, but are revisiting the project to discuss a change in gating to the project, according to the agenda.

On April 26, 2011, the City Council certified the Final Environmental Impact Report(EIR) and approved the entitlements for the development and annexation of the 185-acre Vista Canyon Project into the City.

The Vista Canyon Specific Plan was approved for a total of 1,100 dwelling units, 646,000 square feet of commercial office, 164,000 square feet of retail, and a 200-room hotel, said officials

The development was initially planned for 950,000 square feet of commercial and medical offices, retail stores, theater, restaurants and a hotel located on the eastside of State Route 14, accessible from two exits – Sand Canyon Road and Via Princessa.

When complete and fully operational, the plant will generate approximately 371,000 gallons per day of recycled water. About one-third of the recycled water produced will be used by Vista Canyon, leaving the remainder to be made available to the Castaic Lake Water Agency for off-site recycled water uses.

The Project includes sale of four of the City-owned acres to Vista and annexation of the entire site to the city of Santa Clarita, according to court documents. The stretch of the Santa Clara River which runs through the site is dry except in periods of heavy rainfall.

Following a four year review process, the Santa Clarita City Council approved the project over SCOPE’s objection that the revised Final Environmental Impact Report (EIR) did not comply with the California Environmental Quality Act, according to court documents.

The court reversed that decision on Dec. 18, 2014, according to officials.

Construction is expected to begin next summer. First residents are expected to move in by mid-2019, said the developer.

  1. Holy moly. Via princess nor Sand Canyon can accommodate that many cars. Plus, the Aliente homes off Golden Valley aren’t omplete yet. So I will really need to take the train into DTLA.

  2. It seems as if some part of this article is missing as the 5th paragraph mentions a plant that will generate 371,000 gallons of recycled water per day, but there is NO other mention of a plant. So what plant is this? Is a plant going to be built? What kind of plant and where will it be? Who will own it?
